HEALTH BENEFITS OF CRANBERRY
Raw Cranberries are a fruit rich in dietary fibre, manganese, potassium, iron, magnesium, vitamin C, B6 and K.
- Vitamin C is an antioxidant which helps to regenerate other antioxidants such as Vitamin E. Also, it promotes immune health.
- Vitamin K aids the blood clotting process and aid wound healing. Moreover, it maintains bone health through the absorption of Calcium.
- Potassium is an electrolyte that contributes to muscle function, the nervous system and promotes a healthy blood pressure.
The main active compound of cranberries is called a proanthocyanidin. This is a natural chemical compound that provides colour, promotes cell integrity and reduces oxidation which may lead to disease.
Although it is not an approved health claim, studies have shown that cranberry supplements can reduce the number of urinary tract infections (UTI) and prevent the onset of a UTI. This is thought to be due to the proanthocyanidin and D-mannose content of the natural berry.
